Q.
How does the MVD work?
  A. The MVD provides high-quality audio and video capture by extending the PCI Bus of the localhost PC or PC notebook to the MVD Chassis where the audio/video cards are installed. MVD's unique drviers and methodologies ensure maximum compatibility and resource allocation from the localhost.
  Q. What laptops are supported?
  A. Laptops with Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows 2003 are supported. There must be an available Cardbus (PCMCIA) slot or Express Card slot. At this time we are not aware of any unsupported laptops.
  Q. Why is this superior to using a USB capture device?
  A. Most USB capture devices are limited with respect to maximum capture resolution, color formats, and framerates. By utilizing the Osprey capture cards (the defacto capture card utilized in the streaming industry), with the MVD solution, the full feature set of the capture card itself is supported (custom resolution to NTSC 720x480/30fps).
  Q. What kind of video quality can I expect?
  A. Expect the same high quality audio and video as captured on an equivalent desktop or rackmounted system.
  Q. What software is required?
  A. The MVD ships with it's own drivers, drivers for the audio/video capture card, and drivers for RS-232 support (may not be required on all systems). No additional software is required. To get you up and streaming quickly, Windows Media Encoder, RealProducer Basic, and other free utilities are included on the Install CD.
  Q. Which slot should I connect the PCI Adapter to?
  A. The MVD is a 32bit 3.3v/5v PCI card and can be utilized in any free PCI slot.

Q. Why is this superior to using the IEEE-1394 firewire port on my laptop?
  A. The firewire port on PC notebooks is ideally used as a port for connecting peripheral devices like CD burners or external hard-drives but are not well-suited for audio/video capture and streaming. This is due to the fact that most applications, such as Windows Media Encoder, require the decode of DV data in the video from the DV camcorder or other device. This rquires that the DV data is decoded in software, thus consuming CPU resources that could otherwise be allocated to the compression and encoding process.
  Q. Can I use the MVD with more than one laptop?
  A. Yes. The license agreement for the MVD allows you to utilize the MVD with as many laptops as you wish.
  Q. Can I use the MVD with a laptop AND a desktop or rackmount workstation?
  A. Yes. You may purchase one or more PCI Adapters to utilize the MVD with as many additional desktop or rackmount systems as you wish.
  Q. Which slot should I connect the MVD CardBus (PCMCIA) Adapter to?
  A. In most cases, the MVD CardBus Adapter will work in any TYPE II CardBus slot. If your notebook PC has more than one slot, start with the lowest slot, then try other slots one at a time if the MVD CardBus Adapter is not detected by Windows. Note: It is best to always use the same slot as Windows may require re-installing the drivers for the adapter when it is moved to a new slot.
  Q. Which slot should I connect the PCI-E Adapter to?
  A. The MVD's PCI-E Adapter can be utilized in any free PCI-E slot.
